Home-as-a-Learning-SPACE (HAALS)
We at SPACE believe that Learning begins at birth, if not before. It develops in relation to broad environmental forces. Both the content of learning and learning behaviors are influenced by the immediate surroundings of a child’s family, home, and community. A good environment of a residential place is essential.
Need
Children between 0-5 years spend most of their time at home
Even after this particular age, they stay at home for a significant portion of the day
Environment with learning resources itself is sufficient to trigger the learning in children
In a conducive environment, children can explore things by themselves
Working parents have less time to spend and interact with their children
What is HAALS?
A home learning space for early years refers to a specific area or room within a home that is designed and arranged to facilitate learning and development for young children, typically between the ages of 0-5 years old. A home learning space for early years is a dedicated area within a home that provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children to explore, learn, and grow.
This space should be safe, comfortable, and accessible, with appropriate materials and equipment that encourage exploration, creativity, and skill-building. For example, it might include soft mats, colorful rugs, low-level shelves, and storage bins to hold toys, books, and educational resources.
A home learning space for early years should also be designed to support different types of play, such as sensory play, imaginative play, and physical play. It should offer opportunities for children to engage in independent, self-directed learning, as well as structured activities led by parents or caregivers.
Furthermore, it should be adaptable to meet the needs and interests of individual children, allowing for modifications and updates as they grow and develop. This might include rotating toys and materials, introducing new resources, or creating different play areas within the space.

Our Consultation Process
At SpacECE India Foundation, our Home-as-a-Learning-SPACE design process for parents is aimed at creating a personalized and effective learning experience for their child. Here are the steps we typically follow:
Initial consultation: We start by having an initial consultation with the parents to understand their child's learning needs and goals. During this consultation, we discuss the child's age, interests, learning style, and any specific areas they want their child to focus on.
Needs assessment: Based on the initial consultation, we conduct a needs assessment to identify the specific learning resources and tools that would be most effective for the child. This assessment takes into account the child's developmental stage, learning style, and interests.
Design proposal: We then create a design proposal that outlines the learning resources and tools we recommend for the child. This proposal includes a detailed plan for how the learning space will be set up, the equipment and materials required, and the learning activities that will be provided.
Feedback and revisions: We present the design proposal to the parents and gather feedback. We work closely with the parents to make any necessary revisions to the proposal until they are fully satisfied.
Implementation: Once the design proposal is finalized, we assist the parents in setting up the learning space, providing the necessary materials and equipment, and training them on how to use the learning resources effectively.
Ongoing support: We provide ongoing support to the parents, including regular check-ins and updates on their child's progress. We also make adjustments to the learning resources and tools as needed to ensure that the child's learning needs are being met.
At SpacECE India Foundation, we understand that every child is unique and has different learning needs. That's why we work closely with parents to create a personalized learning experience that is tailored to their child's interests and learning style. Our Home-as-a-Learning-SPACE design process ensures that parents are fully involved in the design and implementation of their child's learning environment, and that they have the support and resources they need to help their child succeed.
We are excited to introduce our innovative solution for early years education - Home-as-a-Learning-SPACE.
